September 22, 2022

Dear parents and guardians of students in Yale College,

The semester is off to an excellent start, and I am pleased to write you with some details about Family Weekend, which begins Friday, October 7, and ends Sunday, October 9. A schedule of events, instructions for registration (recommended but not required), and other information are available on the family weekend website.

It has been a great pleasure for me to get to know many students in my new role as Dean of Yale College. Students have spent the first weeks of the semester exploring classes and finalizing their schedules, and by the time family weekend begins they will be focusing on their midterm exams and assignments. Athletics teams’ seasons and student productions are well underway, with games and performances scheduled during family weekend. And new buildings across campus have opened their doors, including the Schwarzman Center, the Humanities Quadrangle, and the new science building. I hope you have the opportunity to explore campus, either in person or virtually.

If you plan to come to New Haven, all events will be in person and will follow the university’s COVID-19 visitor guidelines. If you plan to join remotely, speaker events will be live streamed wherever possible, and recordings will be available after events. However you attend, I look forward to welcoming you to campus.

Here are some highlights of the weekend's events:

  • On Friday, you can attend faculty lectures, then a panel that I will be moderating on Teaching and Education.
  • On Saturday, you can attend a talk with President Salovey and me, a panel on student life, a family barbecue, and receptions in the residential colleges.
  • On Sunday, you can attend exhibits, religious services, and a bagel brunch.

If you have questions or concerns, please write to student.engagement@yale.edu. I hope you can join us from October 7 to 9.

With best wishes from New Haven,

Pericles Lewis
