To the Yale College Community,

It is our pleasure to announce the reappointment of Jeremiah Quinlan as dean of undergraduate admissions and financial aid for a third five-year term that extends to June 30, 2028.

Dean Quinlan's second term has been no less historic than his first, a time when under his leadership Yale College expanded enrollment for the first time in a generation, introduced significant financial aid policy changes to undergraduates, and created a distinct office of undergraduate financial aid. Yale College nearly doubled the number of incoming Pell-eligible students and increased by almost as much the number of first-generation students from the previous five years.

Since then, Dean Quinlan has championed major enhancements to Yale’s extraordinary need-based financial aid policies. He has led efforts that significantly reduced the student share component of Yale’s financial aid formula, expanded support to cover even more of the cost of attendance for students with the greatest financial need, and advanced polices that reduce costs for middle-income families.

He successfully navigated the offices of undergraduate admissions and financial aid through the pandemic, offering thousands of incoming and current students exceptionally generous financial support and flexible enrollment options that preserved the integrity of the Yale College residential experience. He led the planning process that brought events for both prospective and admitted students back to campus in 2022 and the policy conversation around test-optional admissions.

He has also overseen major leadership reorganizations in both the offices of undergraduate admissions and financial aid, increased support for staff at all levels, and provided improved service to students and families.

Yale College continues to see record numbers of applications, and Dean Quinlan and his team work hard to continue their detail-oriented, whole-person review process in the face of a rapidly changing landscape. Two years ago, Yale College enrolled the largest and most diverse class in its history. And for the first time, Yale College welcomed more than 1,000 students eligible for Pell grants and more than 1,000 first-generation college students. And for four straight years, a majority of undergraduates are domestic students who identify as people of color. Yale College has dramatically increased its enrollment of US military veterans and students transferring from community colleges.

The staff, administrators, and faculty who work with Dean Quinlan unanimously endorsed him for appointment to a third term. They have praised his leadership, his responsiveness, and his vision for Yale College. He is widely respected within and beyond Yale's campus and is recognized as a leader in college admissions nationally. He is a superb ambassador for Yale College who year after year has attracted the best students from across the country and around the world. We are grateful that he will continue to serve in this important role, and we look forward to working with him in the years ahead.
