Travel to and from New Haven
Ground Transportation to/from Airports
It is not recommended that you take a taxi to New Haven from Bradley International Airport (BDL), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) airports as it would be very expensive. Taxi service from/to Tweed NewHaven airport should be $10-15 from downtown New Haven.
Parking in New Haven
Downtown New Haven has over 15,000 convenient parking spaces.
Parking Meters
Many downtown parking meters accept credit cards.
Parking meters are $1.50 per hour. Follow the signs but most downtown meters are 2-hour parking until 5pm. After 5pm, you can pay the meter and park for up to 4 hours until 9pm when the meters turn off.
Parking Lots and Garages
For locations and pricing information on New Haven garages and surface lots, see the Park New Haven website.
Parking for the Broadway area shops is available at the Broadway Center lot (56 Broadway) and the Elm Street lot next to Trailblazer (272 Elm Street).
Convenient parking for Chapel Street Shops is located on Crown Street (255 Crown Street, entrance next to Louis Lunch) or at 150 York Street.
Yale Lots
All visitors to the university pay to park in Yale Parking Services-operated lots, unless advance arrangements have been made through a hosting department. Parking arrangements for all conferences must be made in advance. If advance notice is not possible, Yale Parking Services will make every effort to accommodate visitors where space is available. Individuals visiting the University may purchase short-term permits at the Yale Parking Services Office.
Each person who parks in a University parking lot agrees that neither Yale University nor any of its officers or employees is responsible for injury to person, nor for theft of, nor damage to vehicles or their contents while on University property.
Getting around New Haven
Faculty, staff, and students may find a car useful, but having one in New Haven is not a necessity, especially if you plan to live downtown or in areas close to Yale and/or on the Yale shuttle route. If you choose to own and operate a car in New Haven you will be responsible for drivers licensing and CT motor vehicle registration, CT emissions inspection, insurance, and possibly property tax.

Bicycles
Bicycles are a smart way to get around campus and the New Haven area. Bike racks or bike rooms are available at most classroom and office buildings, residential colleges, and graduate dorms or apartments.
To protect yourself, wear your helmet and pads as necessary. Ride with the flow of traffic and respect the rules of the road and all traffic signs and signals. If you must ride at night, be sure to use lights and reflectors.
Please lock your bike with a U-lock and secure both the wheels and the frame to a bike rack, pole, or fence. Please do not lock your bike onto the railings of handicap access ramps, building entrances, or stair rails as your bike will be impounded by the Yale Police and you will be charged a fee to retrieve it.
