YaleSOAR (Student Orgs Annual Raise) is an annual student-led giving week hosted by the Yale College Office of Development. This guide provides instructions for how to make a gift to YaleSOAR. Should you have any questions, please contact the YaleSOAR team directly.

All SOAR 2024 campaigns will launch on December 3, 9am EST and close on December 10,11:59pm EST.

Online (preferred)

Donors are highly encouraged to make secure, mobile-friendly gifts directly at givetoday.yale.edu/yalesoar using a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, ApplePay, or PayPal.

If an online gift will not work for a donor’s purposes, in accordance with Yale’s Office of Alumni Affairs & Development, donors may make “offline” gifts by check, by phone, through a wire transfer, or donated securities. Please see instructions under each category below.

By Check

Donors may make gifts to YaleSOAR by check, often sent by mail.

Checks should be made payable to “Yale University.” In the memo line, donors should write “YaleSOAR 40055 – [STUDENT GROUP NAME].”

Donors may call 800-395-7646 or 203-432-5436 to make a gift by phone. Please mention that you would like to donate to a specific student organization through the YaleSOAR giving week.

Wire Transfers

Cash wire transfer is a method of electronically transferring funds from one entity to another through designated bank accounts. If you are interested in donating via wire transfer, please direct them to email cash.wire@yale.edu or call 1.203.432.5867 and mention that you would like to donate to a specific student organization through the YaleSOAR giving week.

For donors who are residents/taxpayers in countries other than the U.S., it may be tax efficient for them to make gifts to the university using one of these options in lieu of making a gift directly to Yale University. International donors may make a gift via wire transfer using the instructions above or contact the YaleSOAR team directly for additional support.

Donated Securities

Donors who wish to make a gift of donated securities should contact Donated Securities at 203.432.4107 or email donated.securities@yale.edu and mention that you would like to donate to a specific student organization through the YaleSOAR giving week.

 Please note that the Yale Donated Securities team will need the following information about a securities gift, which is requested in the form containing the transfer instructions:

• Donor name
• Name of security(ies)
• Quantity (number of shares) of security(ies)
• Designation(s) of contribution (YaleSOAR 40055- [INCLUDE STUDENT ORG NAME])
• Confirmation that the donor is not an officer, director, or other affiliate of the security issuer(ies)
• Confirmation that the security is not subject to any shareholder agreement or other restriction that would limit the donor’s or Yale’s ability to freely transfer or trade the security(ies)

On occasion, a donor, including individuals, foundations, corporations wishing to set up a match, and donor advised funds may require a copy of the Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3) letter confirming Yale as a charitable organization or the W9 form confirming Yale’s tax-exempt status.
