For many students, the college years are the first experience of managing money. This can be a daunting proposition, especially if one is working with a limited budget.
Despite the best intentions, occasionally unexpected circumstances arise (i.e., family emergency or bereavement) in which a student must deal with an unexpected expense. Please speak to your residential college head and dean to explore financial assistance that may be available.
Yale has recently launched the Financial Literacy website, which assists students in understanding their specific financial resources and ways of managing those resources. The site also offers links to the Student Employment website. The website also assists students in understanding their Yale Bursar’s account, possibilities for earning money, and tax obligations.
If you are unexpectedly experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible for emergency funding support via the Safety Net program. We encourage you to research all of your options before requesting support through this portal. Please note that if your emergency requires immediate funding (within 24 hours), the best way to get assistance is to contact the Head or Dean of your respective Residential College.
In its commitment to increasing socioeconomic diversity at Yale College, the Dean’s Office has developed a variety of programs to support students who may be the first member of their family to attend college.
