To apply:

Yale College welcomes applications for possible positions beginning in August 2024.  Please apply through Careers at Yale, which also outlines the position focus, essential duties, and required education, experience, skills, and abilities.

Further details about open positions will be available later in the 2023–24 academic year; in most years, Yale College will seek to fill one or more of the fourteen residential college dean positions.

Additional information:

Every undergraduate student at Yale is assigned to one of fourteen distinctive and vibrant educational communities called residential colleges. Every college houses a Head (generally a tenured member of the faculty) and a Dean (a full-time staff member) who share responsibility for the operation of the college. Residential College Deans are the chief academic advisers in the residential colleges; they provide academic and personal advising to undergraduates; administer and participate in residential college functions, including housing and extracurricular activities; interact with faculty and families; respond collaboratively to student emergencies and serve on Yale College committees. As a job requirement, the Dean resides in an apartment within the college, has an office in the college and receives a meal plan in the college dining hall to encourage student interaction. Living quarters will be suitable for families, if applicable. The dean must have an advanced degree and be qualified to teach courses in Yale College: each dean typically teaches one course per year. The Residential College Dean is appointed for a three-year term which may be renewed. Deans receive eight weeks of recess time each summer, usually from mid-June through early August. Deans report jointly to the Dean of Students and the Dean of Academic Affairs and work closely with Heads of College.
