Dear Class of 2026,

Here we are on week 4! This week’s email comes from Dr. Christine Chen, Chief of

Student Health at Yale Health. There is a lot of important information included here. After you’ve read her message and attended to that information, don’t forget to scroll down below for some reminders and to read a brief introduction from Dean Hannah Peck.

Dear Yale College First-Years,

Another congratulations and warm welcome to you all. Deans Boyd, Peck, and Hawthorne have kindly given me this week’s message to discuss all things healthcare.

Student Health is a professionally staffed (MDs, APRNs, and PAs) primary care department within Yale Health at 55 Lock Street. Our nursing staff and medical assistants are here to assist you. You can call for an appointment (203-432-0312) during normal business hours, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Once you have signed up for our online patient portal MyChart (registration link to come later this summer), you can also either self-schedule an appointment, or send a request. MyChart is also a great way to communicate with us for non-urgent issues once you are established with a provider. We offer video telehealth as an alternative to inperson visits, and busy students find this option helpful. Please note that all visits are by appointment only. Visit Student Health for more about us.

Within Yale Health, Student Health works closely with Acute Care. This department is open to students for emergency issues during normal business hours, and any issues evenings and weekends. We also partner with Mental Health and Counseling and Gynecology, as well as our in-house Blood Draw

Department. Students who choose Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care

(see below) can take advantage of in-house Diagnostic Imaging, Pharmacy, and

Specialty Services. Outside of Yale Health, we partner with Yale New Haven

Hospital and Yale Medicine for specialty care.

First steps:

  1. Go to New Undergraduate Student Forms at Yale Health.
  2. Download 3 forms: Instructions for Completing Vaccination Record, Vaccination Record Form, and your Health Form and Physical Exam.
  3. Take those forms to your provider.
  4. Email your Health Form and Physical Exam to yhmedicalrecords@yale.edu.

  5. Please upload your immunizations records to the Yale Vaccine Portal by July 15th, 2022. Note that it will not be available until June 20.

Second step:

1. Understand and determine your student health care coverage.

All full-time students receive Yale Health Basic coverage services free of charge.

This consists of visits to Student Health, Athletic Medicine (varsity athletes), Mental Health & Counseling, Acute Care, Gynecology, Inpatient Care (4th floor infirmary), Blood Draw, and Nutrition.

Students are automatically enrolled in and charged a fee for Yale Health

Hospitalization/Specialty Care coverage. If you have other insurance that covers care in Connecticut, you can choose to waive this coverage.  Please review Health Coverage Overview for Students at Yale for more details. Our Member Services team is available to answer any questions you have about coverage (203- 432- 0246 or member.services@yale.edu).

Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Hannah Peck
Dean of First-Year Affairs
Assistant Dean of Yale College

Hello Class of 2026! Welcome to Yale, I cannot wait to have you all on campus with us in the fall. My name is Hannah Peck and I oversee First-Year Affairs and student organizations for Yale College. You will be hearing from me over the course of the summer and during orientation in the fall as well.

Currently, I am out of the office on family leave. My husband and I welcomed our second child in late January, and we are rapidly adjusting to life as a family of four. Callie is now four months old and Mitchell will turn two in July. We are a busy household! I will be back full time in late June and ready to welcome you when you arrive in August.

I grew up in Boerne, Texas, which is a small town just north of San Antonio. Boerne is not the sort of place that sends many students to schools like Yale, and growing up I didn’t know anyone who had attended an Ivy League university. For undergrad, I attended the University of Texas at Austin to study Costume Design. After graduation, I promptly moved to New York City. The first few years out of college brought many changes and I realized that I wanted to go back to school.

When a mentor suggested that I explore options at Yale, I laughed and replied, “Where is that?” He assured me that it was an easy train ride away from New York and a few days later I found myself in New Haven on a tour of the Divinity School. I loved it! In fact, I loved it so much that after graduation I stayed on to work. Yale is truly a home for me. It is where I met my husband, had my children, and where I learn something new every day. I cannot wait to share it with you!
