Update – Yale Athletics Director Search
October 16, 2017
To Faculty, Students, Staff, Alumni, and Friends,
As previously announced by President Salovey, it is difficult to imagine Yale Athletics without the legendary Tom Beckett, who plans to retire in June 2018 from his role as director of athletics. But as chair of the Athletics Director Search Advisory Committee, I am eager to begin the important work of soliciting community input and recommending outstanding candidates to President Salovey. I write now to provide an update on the search process and a general timeline for its completion.
President Salovey has selected Gregory Santore with the firm Witt/Kieffer to assist us in the search. Greg comes highly recommended from a variety of sources. He has conducted successful athletics director searches at Columbia University, the College of William and Mary, Northwestern University, and many others. Greg has a proven track record and is well versed in developing a large pool of diverse applicants. We look forward to working with him.
In the coming months, the committee and Greg will conduct extensive outreach to the community, including coaches and staff from the department of athletics, faculty, students, and alumni. There will be the opportunity for group meetings, town halls, and individual meetings with committee members, Greg, or me. The search webform is still open and is a good option to submit input on the search or nominate candidates. Candidate recruitment and interviews will happen later this semester. President Salovey has requested that the committee submit an unranked list of possible candidates to him early in the spring semester with the goal of announcing a new director before the end of the spring semester.
Pilar Montalvo, director of administrative affairs in the Office of the President, is supporting the search. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her if you have any questions or concerns (203-432-2742 or email@example.com).
