William Whobrey holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University in German Studies and came to Yale in 1994. Since taking over as director of Summer Session in 2001, he has maintained an active teaching schedule, offering courses in Middle High German literature. His areas of specialization are paleography and codicology, philology, and the use of internet technology for medieval studies. He taught German for two years at Norfolk Academy in Virginia before coming to Yale and has served as an Army officer for 25 years, both active and reserve.
