Six Yale students will receive support for their graduate educations as winners of the Soros Fellowships for New Americans.

Donald Kagan, Sterling Professor of Classics and History and a member of the Yale faculty for over 40 years, gave a farewell lecture on the eve of his retirement. The April 26 talk, which focused on the merits of a liberal arts education, was sponsored by the William F. Buckley Jr. Program at Yale.

Dr. Roy S. Herbst, recently designated as the Ensign Professor of Medical Oncology, is nationally recognized for his leadership and expertise in lung cancer treatment and research. His primary mission is the enhanced integration of clinical, laboratory, and research programs to bring new treatments to cancer patients.

Those moments in life when you are most fully engaged have a common element — you  let go of all concerns, resentments, and thoughts of yourself, says Yale psychiatrist Dr. Judson Brewer, who asserts that people can improve their performance and even quit smoking through a technique called neurofeedback.

Each year, hundreds of New Haven students take part in Yale science programming on campus and in their classrooms through faculty and student outreach initiatives and school events. But measuring the collective impact of these opportunities has been a recent development.
